Research & Development

• Several centres of excellence are based across the Koprivnice locality to help promote the creation, survival and growth of competitive businesses – large and small – engaged in coal mining, engineering, technology, automotive sector and electronics. Many are partnership-based projects with strong links between industry and universities. The area now has about 200 R&D entities employing more than 5,350 people.

• The regional research centre is represented primarily by the VSB – Technical University of Ostrava, which has excellent equipment, laboratories and is participating in international projects and programmes. Other R&D or design centres are run by companies like Siemens, Vitkovice Steel, Arcelor Mittal, Tatra and others.
• Visteon undertakes R&D for lighting systems, climate control and fluid control in its Autopal subsidiary in Novy Jicin. In the area of lighting systems, Visteon-Autopal is the only R&D centre for all Visteon plants in Europe. Roznov pod Radhostem hosts ON Semiconductor’s, the only design centre in Europe outside France, developing products in the area of power management for wireless and networking applications.
