The locality around Koprivnice is a place where past, present and future meet. Churches, castles and chateaus on one hand and shopping centres or modern industrial areas on the other hand symbolize the surroundings of Koprivnice. All of this is surrounded by lovely unspoiled nature.
Koprivnice locality has a variety of historical places of interest. Many tourists enjoy visiting some of the 10 local castles, castle ruins and chateaus. Visitors to the region can enjoy the historic and ancient towns of Novy Jicin, Pribor or Stramberk. Other places to visit in the area include 11 national cultural monuments and a number of religious buildings.
These historical sites are supplemented by many modern attractions; including industrial tourism attractions (cf. the Automobile Technical Museum in Koprivnice, the Railway Coach Museum in Studenka, the Hat Museum in Novy Jicin and the Museum of Mining in Ostrava-Petrkovice).
Of interest to the more culturally minded are the Region's six professional multi-ensemble theatres.
The beauty of the Beskydy and Walachia areas has inspired many poets, writers, artists and composers. The arts are well represented with a number of local galleries showing some national collections as well has excellent touring programmes. In the galleries you can see many old works of art as well as many new works by contemporary painters, sculptors and photographers. Both fine art and crafts can be found at these venues.
Moravia's number one visitor attraction is the open-air museum in Roznov pod Radhostem with its collection of more than 60 buildings of typical wooden Wallachian architecture. All year round you can see and hear traditional dancing and music in this museum, which has a very full annual programme. This natural cultural sight is visited by the same number of people who visit Prague's famous castle each year.
Classical music lovers can catch a concert of the internationally renowned Janacek Philharmonic Orchestra of Ostrava at the traditional local music festivals of Janacek May and Janacek Hukvaldy, annually taking place in the region. Visitors are attracted to a number of regional cultural projects, festivals, and special events throughout the year.
The region's major city Ostrava provides a wide variety of live entertainment, restaurants, café bars, clubs and of course pubs, as well as superb shopping facilities.
